His Bike Ride From Maine To Sanibel Beach Club
It's been a dream of mine for more than 10 years to ride my bicycle from Maine all the way to
Sanibel Island. This year I decided, if not now, when? So, I did it.
On Saturday, September 18th, I left on my bicycle from my home in Ocean Point, Maine. Thirty
(30) days later, on Sunday, October 17th, I rolled onto Sanibel Island. In the process, I rode 2,643
miles, crossed 14 states and the District of Columbia. I averaged over 88 miles per day, and
covered 151 miles to reach Sanibel on Sunday. Along the way, I met a number of interesting
people and had the adventure of a lifetime.
A friend rode with me for the last 2,000 miles, picking me up midway into the ride in Philadelphia,
and coming into Sanibel.
My wife, Sue, participated as well. She drove along and shopped and explored her way down the
East Coast, carrying our bags and meeting up with me every night along the way.
People have asked if I'm planning to ride the bicycle back home. No, although I sure would like to.
But I have to get back to work, and cannot take another 30 days. So, I will fly home the end of this
week.
